19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult year, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - led to him falling of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now working with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from March of that year.

Success also means Medvedev has won 21 titles at 21 different events.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive play style and regular emotional displays on court had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour title, gained dominance to create a third set.

Moutet defended four early chances in a close third set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, he earned victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
